Slow Down

By Bridget Kilpatrick

The holiday season is in full swing. I know every November first, my adrenaline kicks in along with my long to-do list. This year, I am determined to give myself the gift of soulful rest and slow down.

SOULFUL REST

Everyone knows sleep is essential to restore our bodies and support our immune system, mental, physical, and emotional health. However, too often, we ignore the-soulful spiritual rest: rest from stress, fears, and anxiety.

Getting plenty of spiritual rest is imperative to maintaining good health and preventing chronic diseases. Chronic anxiety, worry, and fear can create constant flight or fight and stress on the body resulting in chronic disease.

LAY DOWN YOUR BURDENS AND TRUST

As we begin the holidays, find thanksgiving in all the gifts of life, faith, family, friends, and community. Trust. Let go and turn to God for rest. Rest from all the emotions and trust in the truth. Trust in your family, friends, and community. It will all work out the way it intended to. Stay true to yourself, your core values, and do the right thing. Refrain from over-committing. Lay down all your burdens.

Find gratitude in the small things, find hope, and rest your soul. Be still. Slow down.
