Contentment

By Bridget Kilpatrick

WHY DO WE LOOK LEFT OR RIGHT?

Why, as women do we always look left or right? Whose expectations are we judging our life by? Why do we establish incredibly challenging expectations: a perfect marriage, incredible career, or super mom… the list goes on? We have to stop and wonder, are we content?

So many of us allow contentment to be defined by society. In reality, you and God are truly the only ones to have the final say.

WHAT’S CONTENTMENT

What's contentment? Why does it matter?

The dictionary defines contentment as a state of happiness and satisfaction.

We all want to find happiness. Sadly, the reality is we often live with regret, hopelessness, disappointment.

According to The Top Five Regrets of the Dying - A Life Transformed by the Dearly Departing by Bronnie Ware,

The 5 Things People Regret Most On Their Deathbed:

1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me...

2. I wish I hadn't worked so hard…

3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings...

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends...

5. I wish that I had let myself be happier…

FINDING CONTENTMENT

How do we become content?

1. Don't look left or right (measure your success by others); everyone is unique and different, successful in their way

2. Start your morning by reflecting on moments of joy; focus on positive emotions throughout the day, dwell on what is: true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, gracious, excellent, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8)

3. Remind yourself daily, it is your path, trust in it and your expectations

LIVE A PURPOSEFUL LIFE

Being content, doesn't mean we don't work hard or have goals, dream big, want to be the best version of ourselves, successful with self-discipline and control, It means we live a purposeful life with intention, joy, and no regrets.
